Overall Responsibility: Seeking an organized, hard working and flexible individual to perform diverse projects and activities to support and enhance income production for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s annual Man & Woman of the Year Campaign & Students of the Year Campaign.About Man & Woman of the Year (MWOY): MWOY is a spirited 10-week campaign to raise funds to help find cures for blood cancers. MWOY candidates are nominated by their social and professional peers to compete to raise the most money in honor of local pediatric cancer patients, the Boys & Girls of the Year. The male and female candidates who raise the most funds during the campaign are awarded the title of NYC’s Man and Woman of the Year at the campaign’s Grand Finale Gala. About Students of the Year (SoY): The Students of the Year Campaign is a seven-week initiative in which High School students participate in a fundraising competition to raise awareness and secure donations to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The student group who raises the most money at the end of the seven weeks are named The Students of the Year. LLS Staff members will guide candidates through goal planning meetings, helping candidates form a business plan for success and teaching skills like networking, outreach, sponsorships and event planning. The amounts raised during the seven-week period, beginning in January, are TOP SECRET and are not disclosed until March, at the Grand Finale Celebration. The Grand Finale features a silent auctions, fabulous food and drinks, music, dancing, acknowledgement of the candidates, and the exciting announcement of The Students of the Year!

Responsibilities

Recruit both Students of the Year & Man & Woman of the Year participants through emails, calls and in person meetings/presentations.

  • Support candidates and teams to achieve their fundraising goals. Provide support to staff management of MWOY/SoY candidate.
  • Support Executive Leadership Committee & Chairs by providing assistance with meeting needs (slide decks, agendas, meeting materials) and logistics
  • Manage the Honored Hero/‘Boy & Girl of the Year’ relationships throughout both campaigns.
  • Provide website support including but not limited to helping participants customize fundraising web pages, maintaining MWOY/SoY chapter website and social networking profiles. Design, produce & send monthly MWOY/SoY newsletter.
  • Help implement logistics leading up to all 7 MWOY campaign events and other MWOY candidate events. Help implement logistics leading up to all 3 SoY campaign events and other SoY candidate events.
  • Lead the RSVP tracking process for all 7 MWOY campaign events and 3 SoY campaign events.
  • Utilize internal database and Excel to create and maintain mailing lists and trackers throughout the Campaign(s).
  • Support the department staff in various aspects of the campaigns.
  • Perform additional administrative tasks and provide support as needed.

 

Qualifications

 Position Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree preferred
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Publisher
  • Capable of balancing multiple priorities effectively
  • Ability and eagerness to excel as part of a team
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced and ever changing environment
  • Must be able to work some nights and weekends
  • Exceptional attitude, understanding and enthusiasm towards the goal and mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
  • Database management experience a plus
  • Fundraising experience a plus
  • Event planning experience a plus

 

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Physical demands are minimal and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations
  • Work environment is representative and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations
  • May be required to move Campaign materials weighing up to 15 pounds for various events.
  • May be required to travel within the Chapter's designated area.
  • Required to work evenings or weekends.
