Summary:           Manages CTSC operations and provides guidance to nurses and support staff in the Clinical Trial Support Center; helps to ensure continues learning and development of CTSC staff. Works with patients, family members and/or health care providers to assist patients in their efforts to identify skills to determine qualification for particular trials. Educates patients about their diagnosis, and the risks and benefits of both standard of care and clinical trial treatment options. Supports patients and family through decisions around treatment options, including decisions to end treatment. Collaborates with the Information Resource Center to ensure a smooth referral process to the CTSC and to provide education, services and support to patients and family members. Serves as a primary resource to the Information Resource Center (IRC) for guidance around all aspects of clinical trials.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Manages day to day operations and problem solving; provides guidance and implements procedures for the Center
  • Provides clinical leadership and management, and promotes professional growth for self and staff
  • Manages data collection, data organization and reporting
  • Provides training, education and orientation to nurses and support staff within the Clinical Trial Support Center
  • Independently maintain own caseload of patient seeking enrollment into clinical trials; this includes objectively presenting information to patients about available treatment options, including clinical trials
  • Use problem solving skills to help patients overcome obstacles to enrollment
  • Acts as a liaison to maintain communication within the Clinical Trials Support Center while incorporating the mission, vision and core values of the Clinical Trials Support Center and LLS
  • Collaborates with the Information Resource Center to educate and support patients and family members in their efforts to understand their diagnosis, treatment options and available services
  • Serves in consulting roles to the Information Resource Center about clinical trials
  • Maintains/increases knowledge and understanding of hematological cancers, blood and bone marrow transplant and psychosocial aspects of living with cancer
  • Contributes to continual process improvement of clinical trial support procedures
  • Develops effective working relationships within the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and with trial site staff, investigators, sponsors, patient and professional organizations
  • Exhibits deep understanding of ethical standards and Federal Regulations in human subjects research


Education & Experience Requirements: 

  • Bachelor degree in Nursing; Masters preferred. Master's degree in non-nursing area considered. OCN certificaion preferred. Current RN licensure required. 
  • Oncology experience preferred; specialty training in Oncology/Hematology.
  • Prior management and/or nurising education experience preferred.
