Summary:           The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Office of Public Policy (OPP) advocates across the country for the legislative and regulatory changes that can help deliver the cures and improve access to care for patients and families living with a blood cancer diagnosis. With staff based in Washington, DC and around the country, OPP relies heavily on its Program Associate to ensure that the team remains coordinated and that operations are smooth and efficient. This position affords the right candidate the opportunity to learn the mechanics of patient advocacy and policy related activities while helping to advance the LLS mission. The right candidate will be not only organized and detail-oriented; also critical is an interest in health care and a sense of commitment to improving outcomes for patients.  


Reports to:          Vice President, OPP


Duties and Responsibilities: 


  • Provide critical support for OPP-hosted events, including the organization’s annual Washington, DC lobby day and similar legislative events held in state capitols throughout the year
  • Coordinate efforts across the OPP team to build and manage national partnerships with other non-profit organizations and with companies working in the healthcare industry
  • Maintain library of printed and electronic OPP materials, updating data points and distributing to the team as needed and appropriate
  • Help organize internal team meetings and professional development sessions, including quarterly in-person meetings of DC- and field-based OPP staff
  • Assist with tracking of grant activities for the purposes of grant reports at the end of the fiscal year
  • Attend policy-related events as assigned by senior leadership, to include Hill briefings and coalition/stakeholder meetings
  • Provide direct assistance to the Vice President, Public Policy as needed, and senior leaders as assigned
  • Receive visitors when they arrive at the OPP office in Washington, DC, as directed
  • Serve as liaison to the DC office's building management, as needed
  • Maintain a strong understanding of LLS’s patient access programs and revenue-generating campaigns, to help promote the organization and its initiatives as needed
  • Provide other administrative and clerical support as assigned


Education & Experience Requirements: 


  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a related field, e.g. public policy, political science
  • 1-2 years’ experience working in an office environment, ideally in the healthcare arena preferred
