Overview

The Director, Finance – Clinical Trials is responsible for the financial operations and oversight of all clinical trials conducted at LLS.  Develops and implements fiscal policies and processes and oversees the financial reporting activities, as well as the internal control environment of the clinical trials.  This includes Beat AML, Stop MDS and PedAL.

Reports to:VP, Controller and dotted line to Sr. Director, Accounting Supervises:1 Senior Accountant & 2 Staff Accountants

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all financial accounting and operations of Clinical Trials, including:
    • Invoicing and cash collections
    • Cash management
    • Vendor Invoices
    • Expense allocations
    • Account reconciliations
  • Management of senior and staff accountant(s), including review and approval of all accounting functions.
  • Partner with Internal Clinical Operations Team to develop Trial Protocol budgets, forecasts, billing schedules and reporting, as needed.
  • Partner with Internal Clinical Operations Team to provide financial oversight of External Clinical Research Organizations and other vendors, which will include budget development, monthly invoice reviews and reconciliations, and cash flow management.
  • Develop and maintain monthly and quarterly reporting of Trial Activities to Internal Clinical Operations Team and Executive Leadership.
  • Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with LLS policies and procedures.
  • Assist with development of annual LLS budget and quarterly forecasts associated with Clinical Trials.
  • Develop P&L and cash projections for each clinical trial and protocol arm within those trials. Partner with Treasury and FP&A team to ensure accurate reflection of such trials within LLS projections and forecasts.
  • Responsible for all audit and legal inquiries as they arise.
  • Support all ad hoc tasks

Qualifications

Education & Experience Requirements: 

  • CPA and a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 8 + years of financial accounting experience
  • 3 + years of management experience

Position Requirements: 

  • Experience in fiscal operations or clinical research contract and subcontract administration experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience, required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project budgeting and fiscal management. Comprehensive knowledge of and understanding of clinical research contracts and subcontracts preferred. Strong financial, analytical, and modeling skills.
  • Knowledge of current GAAP required accounting and financial statement disclosures, and IRS required reporting,
  • Must be able to multi-task and manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Solid organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounting theories and principles.
  • NetSuite and Adaptive, or similar financial system experience a plus.
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Office Suite
